To launch a tennis ball as far as I can?
In school we have a contest to see if we can make a machine that can launch a tennis ball as far as we can manage.
But the catch is that we have to not use, fire, electricity, or chemical reactions. It also has to be able to be disposed of after the contest (in other words cheap). We also need to make it in 2 days, and it has to fit through a normal sized door.
Any ideas on what to make, this will help my team a lot.

In thinking about this, I suppose that if you need a real 'machine,' with levers and moving parts and such, then you will probably want to look into some sort of catapult design.
If it can be any type of device, then I suppose most people will look into something like a giant slingshot.
But my guess is that the best way to fling a tennis ball is by arm. And so I would look into something like a lacrosse or jai alai racket (just google to find pictures of them). These aren't machines as such. Instead they are contraptions that amplify, as it were, the natural abilities of the arm: the ball is positioned on a lever and you simply throw with it.
A key component of achieving distance will be getting the launch angle right, and with a little practice throwing - and perhaps adjusting the length of the pole if you make something like the lacrosse racket - you will be able to get that down easier than you might with a complicated catapult or something.
