air pressure or electric powered mech, which is best?
In the manufacturing plant i work, why are plunger mechs still controlled by air valves, which causes problems such as air leaks,causing plungers to press too slow/not fully press/loose timing etc; Most of the other processes which were previously air, are now electric mechs.
Is it purely for cost reasons?
Answer:
This is a historical thing from when 'engineers' were not good at electrical so tended to stay with the processes they knew best with levers and buttons etc. At last the training for the design engineer has improved to include a good electrical element and manufacturers have also made actuators readily available for the OEM market.
