Frequently Asked Questions...
can you keep the magazine on a shotgun full?
or well the spring wear out over time? by full i mean like 2 or 3 shells.
(im not sure if magazine is the right word for shotguns...but you get the point)
if you read my last question, you'll understand why i ask.
the shotgun is a model 88 maverick made by mossberg. less then a year old, i bought it fresh out of the box.
Answer:
When I was on the PD in KCMO we had Remington 870 Shotguns with an extended magazine. (Holds 8 shells). They were kept fully loaded all of the time except on sunday morning when they were unloaded, cleaned and reloaded. This went on for years and I never heard of one of them failing to load properly when needed. Once a year you would go to the range and qualify by shooting up the old shells and after cleaning your shotgun reload with fresh ammo. To answer your question aparently it does not hurt to keep your shotgun magazine full for extended periods of time. That is if you use a quality shotgun like a Remington.
