Seance : The Daisey Mae Story

Extremely common for comedians to test material on your selected audience before you go on tour...
I would assume therefore that Magicians would do the same...
For me this was the 1st time of running some sort of dress rehearsal preview of a full two hour show facing an invited crowd and I'm not certain why it's utilized me this long to undertake it!
OK, the downside is difficult cover the price ranges of hiring the venue Nevertheless pluses far outweigh these costs.
It's extremely difficult to rehearse some sort of mentalism show without an audience, and regardless of the odd scripting, blocking, routining which should be done its not until there is real people watching that which you do are you going to get any sense for the 'effectiveness' of your show.
Seance: The Daisey Mae story can be a two hour show ending in a very seance. I spent ages using a back story linking the misery I wanted to make use of and hopefully preparing a sense of realism as to the, is in effect, a very surreal demonstrate to.
On Monday a smaller audience of around 30 people, including several professional mediums, arrived at see the 'preview'. These folks told it was a work happening...
I can't will describe the valuable feedback I got from what people said; what I observed and that they reacted.
Just about exactly what could go wrong did go wrong for the second part of the show; but none from this was apparent from the audiences point of view as a quick re-think through the interval meant i could cover for what were not planning to do as they were told during this pre-round-2 set-up. A magician friend inside audience knew everything that I was 'going for' in the second act although said that what was used to covers about 20 minutes was in keeping with all of those other show. In essence it was that old thing for the audience not knowing what to expect so not necessarily missing what they do not know...
The audience ended up very positive for their comments on that entertainment value of the show and all said they would revisit see the spending show booked meant for November.
So because of this experience I have not only learned the value of doing a really live preview but also have some valuable insights about how to streamline this show and generate the 'public performances' a great deal better... I've also created a buzz which I could possibly 'ride' into your regional shows in Nov.
So now to provide the show to your broader market.
I guess this idea is definately not new to various, especially those who regularly present full evening shows. But I suspect more and more magicians faced together with the challenge of creating a two hour position show would look to their cabaret repertoire in addition to mix and match from proven routines. They will not surprisingly rehearse, have dress rehearsals and technical run throughts -- but I wonder the amount of put their organic, untested material 'out there' ordinary preview show?

And unless you then please accomplish... you learn a lot about the tweaks your show requirements before it goes 'live' and of course, develops with went on performance.
