A Question about computer hardrives and GB and Space and RAM?
How can I add more memory and space to my computer without getting an external hardrive? I have an dell Demension PC. And I only have about 35GB worth of space in total. Are there any internal solutions that are inexpensive? And what is the difference with memory, RAM, and GB? I always am so confused when it comes to those. I think i know but it always eludes me. Oh and is there a chip i can get, just one chip that holds a lot of space? Just wondering if anyone ever encountered this problem.
Answer:
you can go to www.newegg.com and buy a new harddrive if you want, they have reviews that can tell you good ones, also you can go to www.tweak3d.net and go to the articles archive, they have tons of articles that will help you understand computers much better.
GB stands for Gigabyte, 1GB=1000MB, MB stands for Megabyte, 1MB=1000KB, KB stands for Kilobyte, this is just how space in hard drives and RAM are measured.
Memory, there are a few kinds of memory, flash memory is the memory cards that are in digital cameras and now are in cell phones, video cameras, and video game consoles such as the wii, and psp can use them as well.
RAM is Random Access Memory, this is memory that the computer uses to store information that does not need to stay on your computer, Windows xp uses about 256mb and Vista uses 512mb, RAM allows for faster loading times and other things, once the computer is restarted or the program is exited the ram is usually reset and emptied.
As for a chip you can get, I dont know what you mean, You can get a usb flash drive(also called a thumb drive) that will plug into a usb and acts the same as a cd, dvd, floppy disk etc... as you can load information on it.
